I read this book as a child, and I'm almost 30, but I still think about it. So what did I do? I bought it with my grown-up money, read it in a couple of days, gave it to my eldest, and he loves it so far! This book is good, clean fun. There are some tense parts, some parts that make you "eek," and others that make your heart soften. It's a beautiful story with a really serious plot. This is not your standard straightforward kids' book; it's complex and requires some emotional intelligence to understand the depth of the main character's feelings. Even without that skill, it's still a fantastic book.
