John Foxe (1516/17– 18 April 1587) was an English historian and martyrologist, the author of Actes and Monuments (popularly known as Foxe's Book of Martyrs), an account of Christian martyrs throughout Western history but emphasizing the sufferings of English Protestants and proto-Protestants from the fourteenth century through the reign of Mary I. Widely owned and read by English Puritans, the book helped mould British popular opinion about the Catholic Church for several centuries
A great book of the faith! When satan tries to silence the church, it grows stronger. This book is a great blessing! It causes us to realise that a great price has been paid by saints of the past! We have no idea today in America the horrible persecution that the church has faced. Satan has tried to put the church "out of business" but as these real lives have proven as persecution is faced, God gives grace for us to not give up and back down even when you are staring adversity in the face! Satan is a roaring lion, he is walking about, seeking whom he may devour. You will not regret a moment of reading this book! It is very thought provoking...wold we stand up for Christ's Name if we were in these situations? If we had to face them, He would give us the grace to go thru it! Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, the life!
