Reading Heavy Time and following that gem up with this book has cemented C.J. Cherryh as my favorite author. I love her way of telling a story. This is the purist Hard Science Fiction, no fluff, and blunt as you please. Despite that, the characterization is stellar. No "it's about the science, not the characters" here. In Cherryh's world, it's about both equally, and she creates that world masterfully. To put it simply, if you asked me if a political/military Crime & Mystery could be blended successfully with a Hard Science Fiction, all I'd do is point you to this book.
